Detox (or detoxification or purification) is a process through which the by-products of metabolism or toxins from the reactions that occur within our body are eliminated. This procedure is essential in ensuring you are in a perfect state of health all the time. You can do this by yourself or register for a detox program.
Through detoxification, the preservatives and additives contained in food, alcohol, free radicals, in general, are neutralized and expelled. There are different excretory organs in the body that aid this procedure. They include:
- liver
- intestine
- kidneys
- skin
- lungs
- and for women, the ovaries are often overloaded in their disposal work.
When this occurs, your body responds with an inflammatory reaction and a condition of acidosis. This is the first step towards the development of various pathologies.
Therefore, putting less effort into their work of digestion and disposal of the intestine, the kidneys, the liver, and the entire digestive system means allowing them to eliminate accumulated toxins easily.
When Is the “Right” Time to Detox?
It is mistakenly thought to detoxify only when there are clear signs, and the body is in trouble. While it is good practice to do it periodically to avoid that the toxins present favor the onset of many ailments and pathologies. The signals that our body sends when there is an excessive presence of toxins to be disposed of and when there is a slowdown in the purification process by the excretory organs are:
- fatigue and lack of energy
- digestive difficulties
- constipation or diarrhea
- swelling
- headache
- dull skin
- food intolerance
- poor concentration
- a flare-up of joint pain
- bad breath
The wide choice of food and the lack of regulation in eating together with physical inactivity leads to frequent problems such as overweight, obesity, intolerances, allergies, and chronic inflammation. Furthermore, it is recognized that all these conditions of malaise affect a large part of the world population.
There are many detox programs ranging from intermittent fasting to 3-5 meals a day (for a short period because they lack some necessary nutrients). However, remember that the Detox program is not a true weight loss diet. It is a starter to initiate weight loss, initially represented by the elimination of excess fluids and later by reducing the intake of sugars and fats. Choose the right detox program that will guarantee you the best results.
